Hey Martin. I'm coming with the Florida group doing the TOI in August. I see you are now on a 450x. What gearing do you like best for the TOI? Jason

My bike has the full Honda closed circuit modifications with a stage 2 Hotcam and a T4 exhaust and header. It'll run cool and easy all day with big gears and mine still had enough grunt down low for most single track. For the first day I'd run either stock gearing or go down a couple of teeth on whatever countershaft sprocket you use. The first day is not in as good shape as it was last year and some of the climbs are rutted and brutal. cheers m

Thanks for the input. I have gone up 1 tooth on the front (14) and it still seems too low for dual sporting. I have a 49 rear I will put on this week.
I have the same tank - ims 4.0. What kind of fuel range are you getting with yours?

Today I rode some of the Day one technical single track with my 14 - 47 setup and I'm now thinking that you might be good to go with that for the entire Tour if your bike is at all "opened up." Keep it under 100 going up the Pahsimeroi and that gearing ought to work. That's what I'm going to run when I do the whole thing solo next week.
cheers

I have the airbox opened up per crfsonly faq and the screen removed. (not the full open setup you have) I'm using the JD jet ket and smog eliminator and it runs a ton better than stock. Still have the stock pipe b/c I wanted to keep it stealthy. I will try the 14 / 49 setup that I have already bought. Hopefully my setup will have enough power to pull these gears ok. Thanks again for your feedback.

Thanks again for your feedback. Be sure to let me know when your group is coming through. T1 runs right past my farm and we have our own private MX track to play on. If I'm around you can take a few laps on my X and see how it compares to yours. We are posting a story within a few days about our MoJazz CRFx and everything we did to it. m

Jason,
After a lot of riding I've come to the following conclusions about sprocket ratios for the CRF450X.
For general riding (complete T1) I'd recommend a combination that yields something around a 3.4. For anything technical (especially steep) I'd go 3.6 or higher and for flat out speed on relatively flat terrain I'd go 3.1. I accomplish these with 13, 14 and 15 tooth countershaft sprockets and a 47 tooth rear.
